Black Sheep Brewery Races 2007

The races

During May to September, eight separate races are organised by towns and villages of North Yorkshire. They are called the "Black Sheep Brewery Races". In 2007, the races will take place on the following dates:

Sun May 6th Fountains 10K
Sun May 13th Ripon 10M
Sun May 27th Melmerby 10K
Sat Jun 2nd Kirkby Malzeard 10K
Sun Jun 24th Rainton 10K
Sat Jul 7th Burn Valley Run (half marathon)
Sun Jul 22nd Burton Leonard 10K
Sun Sep 9th Wetherby 10K

You will be able to enter one or more of these races by getting an entry form (from the organisers of the race) and sending it off in the usual way. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post: entry on the day is not allowed.

The Ripon Runners web site is a good place to get entry forms for these races. Links to some of them have already appeared on this web site. And, after each race, it usually has a link to a web page containing the results.

A separate competition

If you are thinking of entering at least four of these races, you may also want to enter a separate competition called the "Black Sheep Full & Half Pint Race Series" (BSFAHPRS). Official information about the BSFAHPRS is at www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk.

Entry into the BSFAHPRS is 10 pounds. The closing date for entry into the BSFAHPRS is "April 14th or when we have reached our race limit of 250 entries overall". Here is a link to the entry form for the BSFAHPRS.

In 2007, the Race Series has a different format to previous years. There are two different competitions: the Half Pint Series and the Full Pint Series.

If you enter the Half Pint Series, "your objective is to complete 4 of the 6 10k races. Your times for your 4 best races are then added to give the overall time for the Half Pint Series".

If you enter the Full Pint Series, "your objective is to complete 4 of the 6 10k races plus the Ripon 10 and Burn Valley 1/2m. Your times for your best 4 10k's plus your 2 long races are then added together to give your overall time for the Full Pint Series".

Other information including details of the prizes is given at: www.blacksheepraceseries.co.uk.

Just to repeat what is said above: if you choose to enter the BSFAHPRS (paying the 10 pounds by its closing date), you will also, separately, have to enter each race and pay the fee for each race. The closing date for entry into each race will be whatever is given on the race's entry form. In previous years, some of the races insisted that you enter by post: entry on the day is not allowed.
